Every Fall and Spring term, the Department of Communication offers the Speaking in the Disciplines Faculty Seminar in collaboration with the School of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education (CIDDE).
Its goal is to make oral communication part of all classroom instruction. Attending faculty meet biweekly (over the course of the semester) to discuss strategies for integrating oral communication into their courses. On the weeks the seminar is not held, participants have the option to meet with an instructional designer from CIDDE to design a syllabus or devise a substantial assignment that incorporates a considerable component of oral work. Faculty who complete the seminar are awarded a stipend of $1,200.
Space in the seminar is limited each Fall and Spring term to 10 participants.
